Target Audience The presentation is designed for all monitorists to include electrophysiologists from neurophysiologic backgrounds, nurses, electroneurodiagnostic technologists, audiologists, and other practitioners involved with patients where neurophysiologic monitoring is used and who wish to expand their knowledge.


Learning Objectives At the completion of this activity, the participants will:

1.   Be able to compare and contrast the risk of C5 palsies on various cervical procedures, and describe how best to detect and prevent C5 palsies.

2.   Be able to describe the optimal IONM plan for preventing lumbar plexopathies on a lateral lumbar procedures.

3.   Be able to discuss the utility of sEMG to detect sudden injuries during orthopedic procedures and how electrode choice, specific muscle, and alert criteria can, and should, influence the interpretation of the activity.
